dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this exploratory study is to look at the relationship of the teenagers' perception of parental discipline, and the teenagers’ self esteem and delinquency. This study has focused on the following two research questions: (i) Are there any differences in the perception of parental discipline and parental support between the delinquent and non-delinquent boys? And,(ii) compared to the non-delinquent boys, do delinquent boys have lower self esteem? Six of the important aspects or variables are explored in this study namely, perceived parental control; perceived parental support; perceived school performance; opportunities to mix with deviant groups or peers; parents’ level of formal education; and the parents’ income. Notwithstanding the limitations of this exploratory study, the findings suggest some possible implications and important aspects that may require further consideration for the parents and the rehabilitation of the delinquent boys.
