dc.description.abstractThe aim of this Academic Exercise is to study the socialization process of pre-school children at day-care centres. In Chapter One, the factors that have contributed to the emergence and popularity of day-care centres will be discussed. Chapter Two focuses on the methodology and approach of this study. The scope and limitations of this research will also be highlighted, with a brief discussion of the problems encountered in getting data. Chapters Three and Four are concerned with the environmental factors, which day-care centres provide for the children to acquire the necessary basic social skills for participation in any social organization. Chapter Three analyses how the organizational control of day-care centres in an integral part of the socialization process of the pre-school child. In Chapter Four, the roles of teachers and peer at day-care centres will be examined. In Chapter Five, the socialization process is looked from the child’s perspective. Chapter Six concludes by summarizing the findings of this research, in particular, the importance of the role of the day-care centres in the socialization process of the pre-school child.
