dc.description.abstract | The growth of aviation as well as technological developments in many parts of the world was so fast after the end of the second world war that airports have become an important focal point where modal change of transportation takes place. This dissertation seeks to examine the basic terminal concept as well as to study the flow and function of a passenger terminal system. Changi Airport becomes the subject of this study and its design concept is discussed in relation to the present planning concept. A modern airport is one that adequately serves all the requirements of air transport and the community while at the same time providing a whole range of services and facilities to the increasingly sophisticated air traveller. Changi Airport is a modern airport equipped with the facilities to cater to the needs of the modern traveller. Quick check-ins, fast baggage retrieval, and security are the essential elements of a successful airport. This study seeks to evaluate these critical areas and examines the role of non-aeronautical activities in generating income for the airport. | |
