dc.description.abstract | Biorefinery is becoming a preferably sustainable process to produce energy and biochemicals as the petroleum industry is facing energy crisis, environmental pollution and health concerns. To effectively and efficiently utilize food waste, Clostridium acetobutylicum strain BOH3 was proved to synthesize amylase and can produce 14.1 g/L butanol and 16.2 mmol hydrogen from 180 g/L food waste without enzymatic pretreatment process. A novel strain with less by-products, Clostridium beijerinckii strain BGS1 was isolated to produce butanol without acetone and ethanol. Additionally, genome studies of Clostridium improved the understanding of its mechanism for solvent production. In summary, this thesis provides a strain, Clostridium acetobutylicum strain BOH3 as a potential candidate for butanol production from food waste without enzymatic pretreatment in industrial scale, a novel isolated wild-type strain, Clostridium beijerinckii strain BGS1 as isopropanol-butanol producer from diverse sugars and valuable information of genome and pan-genome studies. | |
