The Housing and Development Board (HDB) has made quite an effort in providing recreational facilities in its housing estates and new towns. All new towns have their own athletic centres, swimming complexes and town gardens. Land is also set aside for neighbourhood parks, jogging tracks, fitness corners, game courts and playgrounds for the enjoyment and use by the unit dwellers. This study attempts to examine the residents' usage and level of satisfaction pertaining to the provision of some of the facilities. Major maintenance problems are also discussed to give an insight into the difficulties of providing such facilities.
