Abstract: Despite the advancement of healthcare technology that has created increasingly sophisticated equipment and diagnostic methods, progress in this area has been largely impeded in low-resource nations that are burdened by the lack of required infrastructure, equipment, and trained personnel. As rapid and accurate diagnosis is of paramount importance in the treatment plan for the individual, as well as in surveillance of contagious diseases on a nationwide basis, the creation of affordable, efficient and easy-to-operate point-of-care diagnostic devices is thought to be suitable for the needs of such populations. In this research, a 3D paper diagnostic device was developed through the use of wax-printing. Optimization of the parameters was also conducted to achieve better efficiency. The resulting prototype serves as a model to better understand the workings of such devices, and as a proof-of-concept for the development of future diagnostic devices for diseases such as dengue and malaria.
