This Academic Exercise is an examination of the attitudes and cultural experiences reflected in the kinds of imagery revealed in the poetry of four local writers, Lee Tzu Pheng, Edwin Thumboo, Wong May end Arthur Yap. A selected number of poems is studied, and the nature, functions and patterns of the imagery are analysed in relation to the socio-cultural background of our city in the present time as it is reflected in the thematic concerns of passing time and loss, and identity.
