This study investigated the effects of social support and trait-anger (TA) on physiological and psychological responses among Singaporeans. It is hypothesized that there will be significant interactive effects between TA and social support on CVR, between ethnicity, TA and social support on quality of social support, and between ethnicity and TA on psychological measures. Female participants (N = 135) of three ethnic groups were asked to fill out STAXI questionnaire, which provided a measure of TA. Two thirds of them were either actively or passively supported by a good friend they brought to the experiment, while the rest came to the experiment alone. Physiological and emotional responses were recorded throughout the experiment when they performed neutral reading, anger recall, cold pressor and mental arithmetic tasks. Though no significant interactive effects between TA and social support were found, the findings of this study showed that high TA Indians reported lower quality of social support when passively supported. High TA Indians were also found to show significant increases in anger.
