Singapore has long emphasised tourist development as part of national development. However, in recent years, many of our tourist attractions have been wiped out in the name of progress while existing attractions have lost their appeal. Making Singapore an attractive tourist destination, calls for an urgent need to develop more novel and interesting tourist attractions as well as to upgrade existing attractions. It is towards the latter that this dissertation is directed. Through case studies of three tourist attractions - Singapore Handicraft Centre, Rasa Singapura and Cultural Theatre, this dissertation seeks to identify the possible areas of improvement and measures to sustain their attractiveness. Towards this end, this study discusses the relevance of location, design and management to the performance of tourist attractions. Apart from the micro factors, the macro factors, namely the tourist market and the factors affecting it, are vital to the success of tourist attractions.
