dc.description.abstract<P>THIS THESIS CONSISTS OF THREE PARTS IN WHICH THE FIRST PART IS ON THE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND SET UP OF THE PULSED LASER DEPOSITION (PLD) SYSTEM AND ACCESSORIES AND ITS GROWTH TECHNIQUES. THE WORKING CONCEPTS OF A PLD SYSTEM, VARIOUS CHARACTERIZATION TECHNIQUES AND MATERIALS USED IN FILM DEPOSITION WERE ALSO DISCUSSED. THE SECOND PART REPORTS ON THE OPTIMIZATION PROCESS OF THE NEW PLD SYSTEM. OPTIMIZATION WORKS ON THE PLD SYSTEM WERE PERFORMED WITH THE AIM OF OBTAINING HIGH SP3 DIAMOND-LIKE CARBON (DLC) FILMS. IT WAS FOUND THE LASER ENERGY AND TARGET-TO-SUBSTRATE DISTANCE AFFECTS THE SP3 CARBON CONTENT OF THE DLC FILMS. THE THIRD AND LAST PART IS ON STUDYING THE FABRICATION AND MATERIALS CHARACTERIZATION OF EMBEDDED ZNO NANOCLUSTERS IN CARBON THIN FILMS FOR THE POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS IN OPTOELECTRONIC DEVICES. AT ROOM TEMPERATURE, THE SELF ASSEMBLY OF ZNO NANOCLUSTERS EMBEDDED IN CARBON-BASED MATRIX USING AN ION BEAM DEPOSITION TECHNIQUE IN VACUUM WITHOUT POST-PROCESSING WAS OBSERVE
