dc.description.abstractIn this thesis, energy level shift of an atomic level due to the presence of external fields has been studied. The shifts originating from oscillating electric fields or electromagnetic fields are generally termed as light shifts. The light shifts considered in this work are: i) laser induced (near resonant), ii) radio frequency (RF) electric field induced and iii) blackbody radiation induced.
