Title: | OBJECT ATTRIBUTES AND THE SENSE OF AGENCY | Authors: | HAN FU YUN MADELINE | Keywords: | sense of agency object-based attention comparison process |
Issue Date: | 4-Dec-2019 | Citation: | HAN FU YUN MADELINE (2019-12-04). OBJECT ATTRIBUTES AND THE SENSE OF AGENCY. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Sense of agency, or SoA, refers to the subjective feeling of control we have over our actions, and it is conceived to be a result of a comparison process between a predicted outcome and an actual outcome that occurs. In this study, we explored whether alterations to multiple dimensions of an object would have an influence on SoA that is above and beyond the effects given by the primary dimension being acted upon. Here, participants made voluntary up- or down-key presses in response to an object. Following which, two dimensions of an object, i.e., either related or unrelated to the participants' action, were being manipulated. SoA was assessed through an agency scale. The results revealed that outcomes relating to dimensions of an object that were not acted upon had some influence over SoA. Our findings are discussed in relation to object-based attention. Our findings are also consistent with a multi-stage agency model, which suggests that SoA is produced upon considering multiple sources of information in different stages. Future directions are also discussed. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/157737 |
