dc.description.abstract | Three stages associated with the emissions/reductions of CO2 are investigated: 1) coal-fired power generation, 2) CO2 recovery, and 3) CO2 sequestration. Stage 2 involves four types of CO2 recovery technologies. In Stage 3, five case studies were presented for CO2 ocean sequestration, two cases for geological storage of CO2 alongside enhanced resource recovery (oil and gas) and finally, five process routes for CO2 mineral carbonation were described. Life Cycle Assessment is used to evaluate these CO2 mitigation processes according to their potential to reduce atmospheric CO2 (prevention of global warming), against the release of other types of pollution (from energy requirements). The EDIP impact assessment method is applied to generate the environmental impact results and the Final Scores.Sensitivity Analysis is carried out for comparing: lower/upper limits of CO2 recovery efficiencies; different levels of CO2 emissions (per MWh); different Weights for EDIP; and the results generated by EDIP and Eco-indicator | |
