In 2012, the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, rolled out an extensive anti-corruption campaign. Since then, millions of corrupt officials, including senior political leaders, have been arrested. Based on the Chinese Family Panel Study, this paper investigates the relationship between anti-corruption and mental health, specifically depression, using a fixed-effect method. I find that anti-corruption improves mental health. This positive relation is stronger for individuals living in urban areas, in more developed provinces, and for Chinese Communist Party members.
