Abstract: In this work, 4,5-bis(diphenylphosphino)acridine (PNP) and 4-fluoro-5-diphenylphosphinoacridine (PNF) have been synthesized as pincer ligands. A series of transition metal complexes have been prepared and characterized, and their photophysical properties have been studied. Pt(II) complexes [Pt(PNP)(SPh)]ClO4 and [Pt(PNP)(SPhCOOH)]ClO4 were utilized as fluorescent probes for hypochlorous acid. The fluorescence of W(0) complex [W(PNP)(CO)3] does not obey Kasha's rule. There are only a few reports of non-Kasha emission behavior across decades of literatures. The Ru(II) and Rh(III) complexes of PNF ligand have shown strong intramolecular C-F...Metal interactions. The C-F...Metal interactions in [Ru(PNF)(py)2Cl]ClO4 is one of the strongest ever reported.
