dc.description.abstract | Objective assessment of nasal patency is important. Acoustic rhinometry (AR) defines objectively nasal cavity patency by acoustic reflections, measuring cross-sectional areas (CSAs) and internal nasal cavity volume. The main aim is to validate the reliability of AR in the assessment of nasal airway and to establish reference values for nasal patency that can serve as a basis for further studies. AR measurements are not affected by individual height, weight or body mass index. Minimal CSA (MCA) appeared to be most sensitive amongst several topographical AR measurements. MCA had the strongest relationship with the subjective symptom score of nasal obstruction. MCA value of 0.74 A? 0.03 cm 2 has been proposed for standardization in our local population. Measurements beyond a significant constriction may be unreliable. When MCA was | |
