RESEARCH PORTAL SYSTEM

Abstract

This project concerns the developments of the Research Portal System to facilitate the work and interaction between the various members of a research organization.The whole system is divided into four components namely: member information, resources sharing, discussion/forum and seminar scheduling. The member's component is responsible for providing access to the system and the ability to specify one's busy slots and organize the calendar activities. The discussion/forum system aids in easy sharing and categorization of ideas in the system. It also acts as a learning environment. This system is implemented in three layers at the server side with the database at the bottom, then the web services and finally the server side business logic which generate and send pages to the client browser. The web services layer not only help in communicating with other server but also make the design scalable.
