Abstract: This thesis aims to improve the Cu(In,Ga)Se2 (CIGS) thin-film solar cell efficiencies through absorber compositional bandgap grading, and CIGS/CdS interface engineering. The simulation studies focus on the influences of various CIGS absorber bandgap profiles and CIGS/CdS interface band alignment on the cell performances. With the fundamental understandings about relationships between material properties, device structures and solar cell performance, various CIGS surface treatment techniques, as well as characterization methods are carried out to further improve the cell efficiencies.
