dc.description.abstractCommunicative style is acquired through socialization into a particular speech community. This paper discusses the differences in communicative styles between Japanese and Singaporeans and examine how the children from both countries acquire these styles respectively. The pattern of communication of Japanese emphasizes rationality while that of Singaporeans are more authority-oriented.
