The major focus of scholarly work in the field of building construction has so far been in the technical and related aspects. Very few studies attempted to examine the business environment in which construction firms operate and to suggest strategic options to cope with chan3es in the environment. This study is an attempt to develop a framework to analyses the construction industry, taking the Singapore construction industry as a case study. Based on the result of the analysis, a prescriptive model of business policy and strategy that could be adopted by local construction firms is proposed.
