dc.description.abstractSpecies diversity of ecological local communities can be assembled from local processes such as niches or by a combination of regional processes and immigration to the local scale. By integrating principles of niche and neutral theory and a combination of mechanistic and phenomenological models, I investigated the key drivers of four macroecological patterns — the latitudinal diversity gradients, species-area relationships, species–abundance relationships and spatial and temporal turnover patterns of ecological communities on islands and island habitats.
