Abstract: This thesis seeks to analyse the effects of social networks on employment outcomes of Foreign Domestic Workers (FDW) in Singapore. Current literatures have established theories on social networks’ role in employment outcomes. Hence this paper seeks to investigate the manifestation of these theories on this disadvantaged migrant group in Singapore. I investigated the relationship of both the size and quality of FDWs’ social networks on their employment outcomes by running ordinary least square (OLS) regressions. Results show that both the size and quality of social networks that FDWs have with their relatives and peers in Singapore have positive relationships with their wages, number of off days and employment satisfaction as well as a negative relationship with their workhours. Therefore, facilitating the formation of such social networks may have a role to play in improving the labour market outcomes and reducing the vulnerability of FDWs in Singapore.
