dc.description.abstract | This study observes the effect of visuospatial perspectives (first-person shooter/ third-person shooter) in action video gaming on enhanced cognitive states. Recent research by Kozhevnikov, Li, Wong, Obana & Amihai (2018) reported dramatic temporary improvements in cognitive capacities among first-person action video gamers under specific criteria; gamers must be 1) actively involved 2) optimally challenged 3) physiologically aroused. Results from the present study demonstrated that when gamers are actively involved and optimally challenged, only subjects in the first-person shooter video gaming condition exhibited enhanced cognitive capacities while subjects in the third-person shooter video gaming condition did not. These results suggest that egocentric visuospatial perspective (first-person shooter video game) is an additional prerequisite for enhanced cognitive states in action video gaming. | |
