dc.description.abstract | This thesis studies resource allocation in cellular CDMA systems with cross-layer optimization across the physical layer, the link layer and the network layer. The analyses for the network layer and the link layer are firstly presented. The physical layer features are included into the link layer analysis. A function block, the cross-layer decision-maker (DM), through which the cross-layer optimization will be applied is proposed. The general optimization problem is constructed to maximize the system utilization subject to the quality of service (QoS) requirements. Based on the general cross-layer model, the capacity unbalance problem is solved with an adaptive soft handoff probability (SHP) scheme. The cross-influences between the adaptive SHP scheme and the dynamic resource allocation schemes are also investigated. Numerical results show that the maximum achievable gain in system utilization is about 60% by combining the proposed schemes as compared to when none of these schemes is used. | |
