dc.description.abstract | Predicting the amount of daylight level at a give time is the most exciting aspects of daylight studies. This dissertation studies the daylight distribution in housing estates built from the 70's to the present. These housing estates are modelled using Lightscape software. Simulations are performed to investigate the daylight distribution in the living room of each housing estate based on various orientations and sky conditions. Three measurement points on the living room's working plane level are extracted and tabulated for analysis. The outcome of the study was that, it generally shows a decreasing trend in the illuminance level from the older to the newer housing estate. Light also penetrates deeper into the room in the older estate compared to the newer estates. This is the results of more enclosed type of design for the newer estates. The order of orientation with the highest illuminance at lOOOhrs is east, north, west and south without obstruction from adjacent building. The order of orientation with the highest illuminance varies among the estates when the outdoor obstructions are considered. | |
