dc.description.abstractTo facilitate and improve information exchange and sharing among building professionals, the Singapore National IT Standards for information exchange projects have looked into a common IT tool which includes a Standardization of layering, symbols, color and line type for the local Construction Industry. This study has explored the effectiveness of National CAD Layering Standards in various stages of communication and sharing of information among building professionals of construction industry. Problems, limitations and suitability of various components of Code of Practice (CP83) in terms of effective communication and level of adoption needed by the industry to re-engineer with regard to skill training and purchasing of new equipment have been identified in this study. The study also has gathered informally the opinions of the industry on such development and provides a preliminary insight for further improvement of CP83 prior to making it as a mandatory Code of Practice.
