Abstract: Caregiving for patients suffering from Schizophrenia has been known world wide as very burdensome, with the caregivers facing psychological distress and experiencing much burden as a result of their demanding and often unsupported role that they saw no end. The de-institutionalization process meant that more patients were discharged to the care of family members The local caregivers are found to experience similar burden. However, there are factors that were found to influence the extent of the burden and there were groups of caregivers who were more vulnerable. There were also differences between long term and short term caregivers. All these will have to be taken into consideration in the development of services.
