dc.description.abstractThis study focuses on classical style poetry and Ci societies in Shanghai and Nanjing during 1912-1937, trying to explore the research questions as below: How these societies survived and developed in the new era? What was the difference between the poetry societies in Early Republic and Ming-Qing periods in institutional characteristic and form of activity? Did these poetry societies from different places have typical regional literary consciousness? How these societies influenced the development of shi poetry and ci? My thesis is composed of six chapters, including introduction and conclusion. The second chapter is about the literati societies’ typical characteristic in Ming and Qing dynasties; The third chapter tries to explore the relationship between poetry society and style of poetry school; The fourth chapter concerns the varieties of poetry societies from the angle of institutional characteristic and form of activity; In chapter five, discussion will be focused on the regional and familial poetics inherited by poetry society.
