Abstract: This thesis describes the development of a computer-aided process planning (CAPP) system for the manufacture of lead frame wirebonding clamping assembly. The system first extracts the feature parameters from the model and classifies the component into predefined component-type. For each component-type, there is a standard plan template that defines the selection of process-types and sequence of processes. For the suggested process from the retrieved plan template machine tool type, machine tool, cutter type, cutter, and cutting condition are preliminarily selected considering the technological constraints and manufacturability rules. On the other hand, the selection of machine for each process-type, cutter for each process and cutting parameters for each cutter is optimized by a simulated annealing-based algorithm. The process plan is then input into the CAM software. Lastly, the system generates the CNC tool path from the CNC template and stores the generated CNC tool path in a cutter location source file.
