Abstract: The main purposes of this study are to investigate emotions as antecedents of the developerindividual relationship, examine the role of trustworthiness of developer being a mediator of the relationship between emotions and developmental assistance and look into developmental assistance being a mediator of the relationship between trustworthiness and career success. Specifically, trait affect and emotion regulation strategies of the developer as perceived by the individual under his/her development were examined to investigate how they influence career and psychosocial assistance received by the individual. Trustworthiness (ability, benevolence & integrity) was studied as a mediator in this relationship. Data were collected from 265 working professionals who are engaging in developmental relationships. Results from Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) revealed emotions to be significant antecedents and trustworthiness to fully mediate the relationship between emotions and developers’ assistance. Furthermore, developmental assistance was found to be a mediator of trustworthiness and career success. The study’s implications, limitations and future research are also discussed.
