Abstract: This essay builds a contextualist account of how to designate an event a miracle (or a marvel) mainly from Hume?s marvel discussion in the Enquiry, E10.10-12 and footnotes 22-23. I suggest that my contextualist account is an accurate reading of Hume and one that enhances the viability of his other arguments in Of Miracles. I build on the foundations Don Garrett has laid in Testimony Concerning Miracles for my proposal and respond to several objections from Earman in Hume?s abject failure in the process of explaining, and elaborating on the implications of, my proposal.
