Japan's ODA to China: An analysis of Chinese attitudes towards Japan

Abstract

In international politics, the predominant influence of Sino-Japanese relation in the Asian region arouses much intellectual interest. The Official Development Assistance (ODA) scheme provided by Japan to China can be viewed as the weather glass to this relation; obviously, Japana??s objective is to enhance ties but the result seems uncertain.The central questions in this research are: (1) Why does Japan provide ODA to China; (2) Why does the Chinese government not publicize ODA actively? (3) Has Japana??s ODA improved Chinese peoplea??s attitudes to Japan? The two-level games model provides the theoretical framework and the empirical analysis uses survey methodology with university students in China as target respondents.
