Molybdenum disulfide (MoS2), as a representative of transition metal dichalcogenides, has been studied intensively over the past few years because of its rich physics and unique properties. To fulfill better performance and to explore new functionalities, in this thesis, MoS2 is combined with other functional materials (carbon nanotube and gold particles) and the light-matter interaction of these hybrid structures is investigated. The CNT-MoS2 core-shell structure demonstrates better photoresponse than bare MoS2, making it a promising candidate for low-cost optoelectronic applications. After the scanning by a high powered focused laser beam in ambient, the CNT-MoS2 core-shell structure changes to light blue amorphous molybdenum oxide, which shows photochromic behavior. We also show that photoluminescence could emerge from bulk MoS2 by laser-thinning in ambient and gold particle self-assembly process.
