In view of the interest in the field emission (FE) properties of CNTs due to its technological importance for display devices, In this approach, the relation between the density of the CNTs array and the nature of catalytic precursor layer of iron nanoparticles deposited on various substrates, using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) technique was studied. The PLD combined with the shadow masking was employed for fabricating the 3D-patterns of carbon nanotubes field emitters on a variety of substrates. The carbon nanotubes tips and films were modified by using the laser pruning technique to enhance the emission properties. The field emission measurements were carried out to investigate the effect of different density morphologies, patterned growths as well as of the modified carbon nanotubes structures on their emission characteristics. In this thesis the possibilities to grow CNTs for nano-electronic applications such as field effect transistor were also probed.
