Studies on contemporary Indonesian women writers of the post-Reformasi period mainly foucses on the litrary study of sastra wangi literature and the burgeoning sastra Islam which mainly takes up issues regarding women. This thesis intends to highlight Okky Madasari and her literary works as a woman writer who challenges the stereotype that women writer only take up issues about themselves. A thorough reading and analysis of Okky's novels and short stories will portray Okky's commitment in engaging with social issues and predicaments in her works.
