Title: | MAC PROTOCOLS FOR OPPORTUNISTIC MACHINE-TO-MACHINE COMMUNICATION | Authors: | RAJANDEKAR AJINKYA SHASHIKANT | Keywords: | M2M, MAC Protocols, WiFi, White Space, wireless, IoT | Issue Date: | 24-Aug-2017 | Citation: | RAJANDEKAR AJINKYA SHASHIKANT (2017-08-24). MAC PROTOCOLS FOR OPPORTUNISTIC MACHINE-TO-MACHINE COMMUNICATION. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication is fundamental aspects of Internet-of-Things (IoT) where communication between machines takes place without any human interference. A large fraction of the nodes involved in M2M communication will use a wireless channel. Thus, one of the major challenges in M2M communication is to make spectrum resources available to an enormous number of devices which will be required for supporting various applications in areas such as health-care, smart home, smart grid etc. One of the candidates among possible solutions to this problem is usage of unlicensed ISM radio bands for opportunistic M2M communication. This frequency band is currently used for various wireless networks such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee etc. In this thesis we demonstrate the feasibility of using unlicensed ISM band for opportunistic M2M communication in presence of Wi-Fi, the most common and widely deployed wireless local area network and we propose MAC protocols for such opportunistic M2M communication. | URI: | https://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/142833 |
