dc.description.abstract | Concepts of information processing theory are used to integrate the diverse organizational flexibility literatures. I identified four attributes of organizational designs that lead to strong flexibilitya??sophisticated environmental scanning, an organic organizational structure, a recursive decision making process, and an Adhocracy-style culturea??explaining them in terms of the information processing ability. I propose that the relationship between flexibility attributes and firm performance is moderated by environmental dynamism. A sample of 227 firms located in Singapore is used to test the contingency relationship among flexibility/performance/environment linkage. The results are robust to a variety of statistical techniques. | |
