RAPID URBAN PROTOTYPING: A GOAL-ORIENTED APPROACH TO COLLABORATION AND CONCEPTUAL PLANNING IN THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Inspired by the ideas of rapid prototyping in manufacturing and software systems development, and motivated by the desire for a more responsive and goal-oriented process of urban systems planning, this research proposes the concept of Rapid Urban Prototyping (RUP) as the means to respond to the goals and requirements of projects in the built environment. RUP is a goal-oriented and exploratory approach of planning to rapidly, responsively and iteratively transform the intentions of key stakeholders to concept solutions through digital prototypes during the early concept stage. The Developer, Urban Planner and Engineer are the three major agents involved in collaborating on the development of a successful planning project. The research proposes a framework starting with the articulation of the goals for success in the project as a collaborative and iterative effort between the three agents. The goals are subsequently refined to measurable requirements, from the perspective of the three agents. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/141248 |
