Abstract: This thesis is aimed to study transmitter power control schemes for cellular mobile radio networks because it is a key technique that is used to maintain required link QoS and enlarge system capacity. An extensive literature survey is first given and then the completed research works are interpreted. The first work is to study the problem of whether the required SIR thresholds are achievable in power control. A unified view and general theorem for homogeneous-SIR and heterogeneous-SIR systems are presented, contrast to earlier works where different rules are applied for both systems. The second completed work is to propose a power control scheme that can balance the outage probabilities of different communication links in Rician/Rician fading channels, which is more general than a scheme in an early work for Rayleigh/Rayleigh fading channels. Finally, based on the above research works, a proposal for future works is presented.
