Wide application of project-related products in building industry leads to increasing overlapping between architectural and industrial design processes. Since this inevitably brings about problems at various levels of design, this research intends to serve as a critical examination of design differences and conflicts between architectural and industrial design on the cognitive level in the context of these ensuing problems.Based on a case study of a real project in Singapore, this research aims to establish a model of design differences in the collaborative design between architectural and industrial design processes. To achieve this purpose, the following questions are formulated:1. What kinds of design differences can arise in collaboration? 2. When do these design differences arise?3. How do these design differences arise? This cognitive model will shed light on pedagogy, research, as well as development of computer aided systems to facilitate specifically the unique set of problems and opportunities in collaborative design between architectural and industrial design processes.
