dc.description.abstract | A versatile photocrosslinking methodology based on sterically-bulky bis(perfluorophenyl)azides (sFPAs) that enable the fabrication of heterostructures to give various high performance organic devices has been previously reported. However, further molecular engineering of sFPAs is still needed to minimize photoluminescence quenching and electron trapping especially in electron-transport polymer OSC films and devices respectively. Here I design, synthesize and characterize families of FPA photocrosslinkers with mainly benzophenone and cinamoyl cores. It’s been found that sFPAs with rigid cinamoyl core and sterically-bulky isopropyl substituents gives good crosslinking efficiency and photo-speed. The photoluminescence quenching in model electron-transport F8BT OSC also reduces by about 25% compared to state-of-the-art sFPAs. Electron-only diodes using sFPA crosslinked F8BT OSC shows nearly no electron trapping and this improvement was attributed to the reduced FPA-polymer interactions due to rigid sFPA core with sterically-bulky substituents. Lastly, high performance bottom-contact, top-gate field-effect transistor with crosslinked n-type PNDI OSC, crosslinked polystyrene gate dielectric, and photolithographically patterned Cr/Ag top-gate electrode was fabricated to demonstrate the robustness of crosslinked films. The crosslinked OSC survives even after exposure to organic solvents and base. | |
