EMERGENCE AND CONSTRUCTION OF NOVEL GAPLESS TOPOLOGICAL PHASES. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Topological phases matter have attracted tremendous interest in recent years due to their potential applications in, but not limited to, topological quantum computations and spintronic/electronic devices. While initially many works have been devoted to study gapped topological phases, the recent discovery of gapless topological phases has opened up a new direction for exploring novel topological phenomena in physical systems. To take a step further towards their potential applications, one focus in this area is to develop a platform to realize and control such topological phases. In this thesis, we try to accomplish this by controlling the systems’ dynamics. By exposing certain systems to periodic driving or nonlinearity, we observed various gapless topological phases which are otherwise absent in the original systems. Due to the nature of our approach, the resulting gapless topological phases are highly tunable, thus allowing us to switch between one topological phase to another by simply varying the systems’ parameters. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/137724 |
