Crisis preparedness among companies in Singapore and Hong Kong

Abstract

This study attempts to serve as one of the first attempts of the empirical nature to explore and investigate some realities regarding the present crisis management situation among business companies in Asia. Specifically, it has, by means of personal interview, focused on investigating and examining a total of 413 business companies from Singapore and Hong Kong in terms of their crisis preparedness (CP). A dozen factors related to organisational and environmental characteristics and peoplea??s perceptions have been examined and measured for their actual effects on companiesa?? CP. The findings of this study showed that most of the factors under study had a different impact on companiesa?? CP between Singapore and Hong Kong and the overall standard of companiesa?? CP across the two regions is far from being sufficient, although companies in the former appeared to assume a higher level of CP on the whole than their counterparts in the latter.
