Abstract

This thesis consists of three independent chapters: two on taxation and one on healthcare market. The first chapter studies the effect of marginal capital tax on wealth accumulation to estimate the capital tax elasticity. The second chapter studies the effect of top marginal income tax rates on top income shares using the Structural Vector Autoregression method combined with narrative series of U.S. tax reforms. The third chapter evaluates the effect of streamlined online appointment services on hospital operations and patient choices. We find that the app increases the utilization of hospital services and improve the matching of medical demand to supply by facilitating patients' sorting.
