dc.description.abstractPhase shifters play important roles in microwave and radio frequency systems. Reduction of chip area of integrated circuit phase shifters, phase errors and cost are of major concern.This thesis deals with development of digital phase shifters, which can be realized as integrated circuits. A novel 3 phase-state digital phase shifter circuit using lumped elements is reported. Two 3 phase-state circuit blocks reported in this thesis can replace three 2 phase-state circuit blocks. The author hopes that the design results in reduction of chip area.The research paper presented by K. Nakahara motivated the authora??s research. Nakaharaa??s design uses transmission lines and couplers, which occupy large area. Hence the author has attempted to use LC circuits. The author hopes that the proposed circuit will occupy less chip area without compromising performance.
