ScholarBank@NUS Repository.||Abstract:||With the prevalence of physical sensors (e.g., CCTV cameras, temperature sensors) and social sensors (e.g., YouTube, Twitter, Weibo), we are now living in a world of big sensor data. Physical sensors and social sensors contain data in different modalities (text, image or video). Such massive amount of heterogeneous data from diverse sensor sources calls for a fusion mechanism that combines their information to provide a more holistic view of what is happening in a region. However, fusing multimodal sensor data for situation awareness is still in its infancy. It lacks a unified framework to aggregate and composite real-time media streams from diverse sensors and social network platforms. In this thesis, we aim to fuse physical sensors feeds with social sensors information through different frameworks and methods, so as to detect the occurrence of large-scale events, enable locating of situations as well as enhance situation understanding and prediction.||URI:||http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/135201|
