Although prostaglandins have therapeutic potentials in many different areas, so far the only established clinical applications are for therapeutic abortion and induction of labour. Prostaglandins affect the functions of the gastrointestinal tract both physiologically and pharmacologically and it is almost certain that the next clinical application of this group of compounds will be due to treat some of the disorders affecting the gastrointestinal tract. In the present brief report the effects of prostaglandins on the digestive system are discussed.
