A study evaluating the influence of gestational age and birth weight on the infant response to phototherapy for neonatal jaundice was attempted. Phototherapy was equally effective in small for date infants and premature infants of comparable size, and also in the small for date infants and normal full size infants of comparable gestational age. Gestational age and infant size do not seem to play a significant role in determining infant response to phototherapy.
