The effect of application of magnetic field on the dynamics of cutting process is investigated. The flank wear of widely used cemented carbide tool against the ferromagnetic carbon steels decreased dramatically in the presence of magnetic field even when it is extremely weak. In turning and milling process, the experimental examination showed that the tool wear reduced 8%-45% with the applied electromagnets; correspondingly, the cutting force also decreased by 10% to 20%.The attempted explanation was in the light of magnetization force and forces due to induced eddy current. On the other hand, computer simulations were employed to predict the magnetic field distribution and calculate electromagnetic force. The modeling results is consistent with the experimental data.
