dc.description.abstract | This paper is based on a pathologic analysis of 98 cases of cervical adenocarcinoma occurring over a 20 yr period (1950-69) in Singapore. Adenocarcinomas constituted 4.9% of all primary cervical cancers and there were no significant differences in the frequency of occurrence among the various races. The vast majority of tumors (80.6%) occurred in the 4th, 5th and 6th decades, with a peak frequency (32.7%) in the 5th. The following histologic classification is proposed (with the number of cases given in brackets): adenocarcinoma proper (86) comprising the following subtypes: adeniform, papillary, trabecular, mucoid, medullary, anaplastic, and mixed; combined glandular and squamous cell carcinoma (10) comprising mixed (collision) and adenosquamous (blended) subtypes; no cases of muco epidermoid carcinoma or of adenoacanthoma; mesometanephric carcinoma (1); and adenoid basal carcinoma (1). This classification is simple, yet comprehensive, and is related to prognosis. (36 references.) | |
